Efficient ITFM with Centralized Service Management

The challenge

Bosch aimed to realign its IT into a service-oriented organization with full transparency and control over its services and financial flows. This included redefining the complete service portfolio and introducing standardized planning, calculation and billing.
The legacy systems in use were no longer fit for purpose, especially for handling around 35,000 services with complex structures and costs. A major goal was the breakdown of each service into detailed bill of materials, which posed significant challenges. The transformation required mapping of production factors, dependencies and a new holistic view across all business units. Ensuring a seamless global roll-out added to the complexity.

The solution

USU was selected after a rigorous evaluation involving multiple vendors, proof-of-concept sessions, and workshops.
The implementation began with defining and modeling IT services for Client Systems (CS) and IT Security (IS), followed by complex areas like Business Applications (DA) and Operations (OS). USU’s modular IT Service Management solution replaced legacy tools and integrated planning, cost calculation and billing. Key features included support for Bosch’s hub model and regional pricing. Despite time pressure, the solution went live successfully. It enabled precise demand planning, structured service cataloging and seamless financial process integration.

The result

Bosch now manages over 4,000 clearly defined IT services in one standardized platform. USU enables monthly generation of 3.5 million billing records from 100+ sources, mapped to thousands of cost centers.
The transparent, structured service portfolio supports effective planning and decision-making. IT financial data can now be evaluated group-wide, bridging technical and commercial domains. The transformation has improved global IT controlling, streamlined operations and supported Bosch’s evolution into a modern, service-driven organization. The success of the initial rollout validated the approach and underscored the value of strong collaboration between Bosch and USU.
