Erwin Staudt was born on February 25, 1948 in Leonberg, Germany. He studied economic science at the universities of Stuttgart and Freiburg, completing his degree in 1973.
He joined IBM Germany in 1973 and undertook his first top managerial position in 1982 in Stuttgart. In this position, he was the sales manager with responsibility for Baden-Wuerttemberg customers in financial administration, social insurance, and energy supply. This was followed by an appointment as head of marketing projects, then as an assistant to the director of Marketing and Services.
From 1986 to 1989, Erwin Staudt ran the IBM offices in Berlin. In 1989, authorized as a general administrator, he took over management of the Communications and Public Relations department at the Stuttgart headquarters. He had responsibility for the entire PC business in Germany from July 1992 until the end of 1993. In January 1994, Erwin Staudt became head of Sales and in that capacity was appointed managing director of IBM Deutschland Informationssysteme GmbH.
In October 1994, Erwin Staudt moved to the IBM European headquarters in Paris, initially as the general manager for Competitive Marketing, and then as the vice president of Marketing. From July 1995 to October 1998, he had global responsibility for the business areas of materials industry and petroleum. From November 1998 until January 2003, Staudt was Chief Executive Officer of IBM Deutschland GmbH.
Since 1999, he has been honorary president of the D21 initiative, a partnership between 300 private and public institutions with the goal of accelerating the transformation of Germany from an industrial to an information technology society.
In June 2003, Erwin Staudt was elected president by the members of the soccer club VfB Stuttgart. The former outside-left player and chairman of TSV Eltingen was involved for many years on a voluntary basis in amateur soccer, has been a fan of VfB Stuttgart since his childhood, and a member for many years. From 2003 until 2011, Erwin Staudt was the first full-time president of VfB Stuttgart.
He has been advising business managers on achieving successful further development of their companies since 2011.
Among other positions, Erwin Staudt is a member of the supervisory board of PROFI Engineering Systems AG, USU Software AG, in addition to sitting on the advisory board of Deutsche Bank AG Stuttgart.
Erwin Staudt is married with three children.
