    The challenge

As a central IT service provider, Dataport operates a highly available, hybrid IT infrastructure for six federal states and a municipal IT network. More than 5,700 employees at eight locations ensure stable and efficient digital services—including in Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Bremen, Saxony-Anhalt, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Lower Saxony.

More than 800 specialist processes run via the redundantly designed Twin Data Center with 8,000 virtual servers and 34,000 processors. Responsibility extends to particularly critical applications in administration, police and justice—including the systems behind the emergency numbers 110 and 112.

In order to meet these requirements, central infrastructure services must guarantee availability of up to 99.99%. Dataport also produces over 1,500 SLA reports every month in order to document service quality transparently.

Increasing IT complexity requires a central monitoring solution that controls processes efficiently, detects failures at an early stage and ensures high service availability in the long term.

    The solution

Dataport has relied on USU IT & Service Monitoring for many years to monitor its IT infrastructure holistically. The solution covers all critical areas—from 360° and service monitoring to end-to-end monitoring. In addition, powerful event processing with alarm management ensures that faults are detected early, prioritized and forwarded automatically. In this way, Dataport increases efficiency, reduces tickets and ensures high service quality in the long term.

    The result

With a central, consolidated view of availability and performance, Dataport ensures compliance with its demanding SLAs—and at the same time noticeably improves the efficiency of IT processes.

Thanks to end-to-end monitoring, applications for administration and citizen services run stably and in high quality—on all end devices. The solution detects performance problems at an early stage, such as those caused by unsuitable browsers, and thus provides sound data for internal verification.

The number of tickets fell by an average of 30%. The reasons for this include automated troubleshooting and intelligent event processing with integrated alarm management. The system processes around 500 events per month—the automated notifications reach around 340 recipients around the clock, including via app.

Dataport now monitors the entire hybrid infrastructure centrally—with over 20 specialized monitoring tools that are fully integrated into USU's 360° monitoring. The infrastructure includes a variety of platforms such as IBM Mainframe, Linux, Windows Server and BS2000 as well as cloud services such as a flexibly accessible development environment and an automated email service for 100,000 users.

This enables Dataport to manage even complex system landscapes efficiently—and deliver on its performance promise:

Digitization—fewer tickets, more efficiency in the IT of public authorities!

"Over the years, the use of USU applications in the area of fault management has led to a continuous increase in quality and extraordinarily high operational stability—without these systems, efficient data center operation would be inconceivable."
